A traditional Burmese (Myanmar) saying sums up the tasty favorites of the region, “Of all the fruits, mango is the best; of all the meats, pork is the best; and of all the leaves, tea leaves are the best.”
Your English-speaking guide and driver will meet you at your hotel lobby at 8:30 a.m. and transport you to the heart of downtown Yangon and the internationally known Monsoon Restaurant. Located on Theinbyu Road and housed in a restored British-Colonial building it’s modern kitchen offers you an unparalleled opportunity to study how the Burmese prepare their culinary favorites.
After meeting your Chef and discussing the dishes you will learn to cook, you will journey out into a local market for an educational shopping experience unique to Myanmar. The daily, outdoor markets of Myanmar are always filled with farm fresh fruits, vegetables, meats and locally caught fish, as well as traditional herbs and spices.
Upon returning with your bounty the Chief will teach you the preparation of several popular Myanmar dishes. Your Chef will guide you through the cooking techniques and flavor combination of Myanmar cuisine as he demonstrates how to prepare each dish. Then it will be your turn to cook. Once your dishes are completed you will be invited to feast on your creations in the Monsoon’s historic dining room as a tasty conclusion to your unforgettable culinary adventure.
Full with the knowledge shared by tyour talented Chef you will then be transport back to your hotel by your English-speaking guide and driver at approximately 12:30 p.m.
