A small bustling town, lies on the Thanlwin river and close to the border with Thailand, Hpa An is the capital of Kayin State. A busy market is located in the centre of the town, and the lifeblood is based on agricultural trade of the region. The authentic charm and the beautiful landscape of surrounding areas including limestone mountains and caves. The highest peak Mount Zwegabin is a challenge for visitors to hike with the reward of overlooking fabulous surrounding landscape. Discovered in 1975, impressive Kawgun Cave contains thousands of 7th century tiny clay Buddha images and carving, hidden over the walls and roof of the main cave. Other interesting caves include an enormous Sandar cave, Kawt Ka Taung cave with several Buddha Statues, and the thrilling Bat cave.
